Chinese knotting needs a few basic tools. You need an ample supply of silk cord. You can buy cheaper polyester cord, but the results are not the same. Polyester cord tends to be a bit slippery and so it is hard to tie tight knots. You need a pair of scissors. If you are making 3 dimensional objects, you need molds to make the form for the knots to form. When making double or triple knots, you need a chopstick to wrap the cords around. You need needlenose pliers to pull on the cord in awkward places. You could use beads and pieces of jade and other stones to decorate your knots. Lastly, you need a lighter to burn the ends together to finished. |
